I am spending 3 weeks with my mom and sister at Matenwa Community Learning Center, in the mountainous interior of la Gonave. This island, measuring about 15x35 miles, is home to about 100,000 people, almost entirely in a rural setting. Although it used to be a home to pirates, I have not seen any. I wont be keeping a day to day journal on this site, but will be posting paragraphs about significant parts of my stay. Life in general is fairly monotonous, and confined to a small area. I spend a lot of my time during the sweltering days on the computer, where I have been given several tasks. While I organize their computer lab, my sister organizes the library and Mariam teaches english. Hope you enjoy!
